# FnScribe

> FnScribe is a dictation app for Mac: hold fn, speak, let go, and your words paste as text into whatever app you're in. Speech to text runs on the Mac with OpenAI's Whisper model, so it works offline with no account. Coming soon for $20 / €20, once, for life.

- Platform: Mac with Apple Silicon, macOS 13 or later. No Windows, iPhone, Android or Intel Mac version.
- Languages: English and German, or Automatic (picks between them for each dictation).
- Privacy: speech is recognized on the Mac and works offline. Cloud speech (Groq or OpenAI) and AI cleanup (OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, or Ollama on the Mac) are optional and use the user's own API key. Cleanup sends text, never audio.

## What it does

- Hold to talk, release to paste at the cursor in any app with a text field (Mail, Slack, Messages, WhatsApp, Notes, Notion, browsers, Cursor, VS Code, Xcode, Terminal). Double-tap for hands-free, up to 5 minutes.
- Writing style matched to the app: casual in Slack and Messages, formal in Mail, exact commands in code editors and terminals, clear prompts in Claude and ChatGPT, the user's default elsewhere.
- Voice commands: "send message" pastes and presses Return, "scratch that" takes back or corrects, "note to self" saves a note. Esc cancels.
- Fit to cursor: dictating into the middle of a sentence matches the casing and spacing around it.
- Notes: a note key (right Option) turns longer speech into Structured, Business, Bullets, To-do, Brainstorm or Journal outputs, with Extract and Refine.
- Word list with replacements, shortcuts, Fix a word and optional near-miss fixing.
- Paste the last dictation again with Control-Option-V; the last ten are kept in memory only.
- Limits: English and German only; Mac with Apple Silicon only; AI cleanup needs the user's own key or Ollama; no file or meeting transcription.
